Top 10 Costa Blanca Beaches

Mention Spain’s Costa Blanca coastline to people and many will conjure up images of high-rise apartment blocks as far as the eye can see.  Beaches jam-packed with bodies so close together the sand is no longer visible and they shudder, making a mental note to avoid at all costs.  However, that’s not the whole story and in this blog we bring you some of the best Costa Blanca beaches.

Costa Blanca beaches offer hundreds of kilometres of some of the best beaches anywhere, from wide sandy stretches to intimate and people-free coves, all with crystal clear waters.  In 2021, 148 Blue Flags will fly on beaches and marinas in the Comunidad Valenciana as a whole, 86 of which are in Alicante province.  The Property Finders are experts when it comes to hunting down those special places that many overseas property buyers have never heard of and then tracking down the best properties available.  So if you are thinking of the Costa Blanca on Spain’s eastern coast as the place for your property purchase, whether it’s for full-time living, a holiday home or for investment and rental income, here’s our Top 10 beach suggestions.  Click on the images to enlarge them.

Costa Blanca beaches in Javea

Taking its name from the 18thC fortress built to protect coastal villages from pirates, La Granadella’s position beneath the surrounding cliffs makes the turquoise blue water very calm, perfect for swimming and diving off the beach and also at the nearby Isla del Descubridor.  There are restaurants just a few metres from the water’s edge for local specialities such as paella and fideuà.

Costa Blanca beaches Blue Flag

Over one kilometre long and fifty metres wide, Arenal-Bol is one of the Costa Blanca beaches with a Blue Flag. It has fine, golden sand dotted with palm trees.  Dominating the view is the symbol of the Costa Blanca, the Peñon de Ifach, a limestone outcrop 332m high, a nature reserve with cormorant and peregrine falcon nesting sites, and microhabitats for many plant and marine species.

Deveses beach in Denia, perfect for kite surfing

The strong winds along nearly 5kms of open beach make Les Deveses perfect for wind and kite surfers.  Walking along the sand dunes takes you to the Marjal de Pego-Oliva nature reserve and the Bullent estuary where eel fishing takes place.  Try them in “All i pebre”, a traditional dish of eels, garlic, peppers and potatoes and you won’t go thirsty on the walk as there are chiringuitos serving snacks and drinks along the beach.

El Portet beach in Moraira

El Portet (Little Harbour) is a small, sandy beach around a bay sheltered by mountains behind and its gentle slope makes it a safe beach for swimming.  The promenade is where the best restuarants in Moraira are and you can work off the calories afterwards by climbing up to the 16thC Renaissance watch tower on Cap d’Or, which overlooks the bay.

El Portitxol Javea

Also known as La Barraca (a small Valencian cabin), the clear waters are great for snorkelling.  Roman archaeological remains and more marine life can be found on Isla Portitxol, a rocky outcrop 183m off-shore.

Moraig cove beach in Benitatxell, Alicante, Spain

El Moraig beach is something special.  The surrounding cliffs protect the bay, making the water very calm, while the subterranean river which exits the cliffs from the Cova dels Arcs (Cave of the Arches) sends fresh water into the bay.  This mixing of fresh and sea water produces vibrant blue and green colours, as well as thermal variations, just like in a spa.

The nearby salt flats give this beach the finest and whitest sand on the Costa Blanca.  You will see flamingos in the sky above while strolling on the lively promenade and in the summer months there is an open-air cinema right on the beach in the evenings.

Illeta dels banyets El Campello

One for nature and history lovers as the beach is the site of the remains of a Roman fish farm, with signs of even earlier Bronze Age and Iberian period archaeology.  Float or snorkel in the ingenious interconnected pools and you may see evidence of ancient houses, temples and hot springs, as well as diverse marine life.

Costa Blanca beaches with Blue Flags

Another Blue Flag beach, La Fustera is ideal for children, with games and beach-volley nets and for those who like walking there is a “ruta de senderismo”, a marked trail through the coastal landscape.  For the disabled and less mobile visitors to the beach there is an amphibious chair service into the water in July and August.

Blue Flag Costa Blanca beaches

Cabo Roig is a small beach sheltered by a marina and ideal for all water sports, from sailing to windsurfing.  It deserves its Blue Flag status and is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional Valencian paella by the beach.

So that’s The Property Finders recommendations for property buyers looking for the best coastal locations on the Costa Blanca.  Why not let us help you find that special property close to your favourite?

Overseas buyers in Spain hit record numbers

After overseas property buyer numbers hit an all-time high in 2021 I thought things might slow down a bit. I thought the numbers for the 1st half of 2022 would be good but I certainly wasn’t expecting the stats for 2022 so far to be this good. Now I’m predicting 2022 will be another record breaker.

Property Purchase Tax in Andalucía

Smart move Andalucía. Property purchase taxes in Spain are high & Andalucía temporarily reduced its ITP to 7% as a short term post-Covid market boost. Now the reduction has been made permanent. No more sliding scale with 10% high, a flat rate 7% gives competitive edge.
