Cork City.
Cork City has several expanding commercial
centres on both sides of the City. The actual city centre is set on an Island surrounded by the River Lee and offers several modern indoor shopping centres including the Merchants Quay shopping centre, a number of fine department stores including Brown Thomas, Roches and Marks & Spencer, as well as numerous backstreets containing highly colourful individual shops and a wide variety of restaurants.
There are two theatres, a 10 screen cinema, Catholic and Church of Ireland Cathedrals, Cork University, Colleges of Commerce and Music. Cork is the home of the world famous annual Jazz Festival. Cork has 5 hospitals including the recently enlarged 1000 bed University Hospital.
Cork City has a Main Line Rail service to Dublin, Limerick & Gallway.
3 miles to the south of Cork City is Cork International Airport, with its regular low cost flights to many UK Airports, as well as a growing number of International Destinations. Cork Airport, which serves three million passengers a year, is currently having a new and larger Terminal built as well as additional car parking space. To the east of Cork City is the Ringaskiddy Ferryport with services to the UK (Swansea) and to France.
The south Cork Coast is approx 16 miles to the south of Cork City, with the famous coastal resort of Kinsale, Ireland’s Gourmet Capital, with its wide variety of sailing ships, restaurants and colourful antique shops.
East Cork.
The two principal towns of Midleton and Youghall dominate the eastern area of the country, and there are many sandy beaches, as well as Carrigaline harbour and Yachting Club.
To the south east of Cork city is the historic town of Cobh located at the head of the second largest natural harbour in the world.
Cobh was the last calling place of the White Star liner Titanic, and even today many liners still call in at Cobh to take on supplies.
North Cork.
With more undulating green countryside, wooded areas, and several mountain ranges including the Nagle and the Galtee, (the second highest mountain range in Ireland), North Cork is home to a large number of country houses and estates, many being used as equestrian studs, the land being perfect for the training and grazing of racehorses. Dominated by the expanding towns of Mallow and Kanturk, North Cork offers the buyer lower property values compared with other parts of the County, especially for the buyer who requires property with land.
West Cork.
Clearly the most sought after region of Co Cork, still a spread out rural community, with green undulating hills and valleys, dotted with individual properties, farms and country estates. West Cork towns include the very popular Clonakilty and Skibbereen which offer a wide range of services to both residents and tourists alike, excellent schools, restaurants, swimming pools, hotels etc. Very much a cosmopolitan community, many come to live in West Cork to find a better quality of life in a safe pollution-free country, with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and all are made most welcome! With nearly 100 miles of coastline, Co Cork has some of the finest coastal properties, and for those wishing to purchase inland, there is a wide selection of property types from new town and country houses, traditional farmhouses with outbuildings, village cottages and more rural properties, many having the most spectacular rural views. We have even acquired castles for clients!
Co Kerry
offers more rugged and rural scenery, and abounds in lakes and mountains including the Magillycuddy Reeks, which contain the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohill, at 1,039 metres (3428 ft). The rugged rocky coastline has a mystical beauty. The major towns of Killarney and Tralee dominate Co Kerry, and there is a small airport in the County. Kenmare is always popular for principal and holiday homes, with a fine river and shopping centre.
