The Property Finders – locating your property in Catalonia

The Property Finders is your most important tool to finding your property in Catalonia, be it for personal use or investment. A common mistake, especially in our internet world, is to start the search looking at specific properties. We help our clients to concentrate first on getting the location right. Then and only then do we start looking for the property which is right for you. During our work for you, the buyer, The Property Finders are able to make a real difference.
  • The Property Finders’ extensive territories allow us to compare locations across an entire region, guiding you to the one that is right for you. We really listen to what you tell us and our in-depth local knowledge often means we suggest possible locations that you have not thought about or of which you are unaware.
  • We tell it like it is, warts and all. If we know a particular property has a problem, e.g. it is under a flight path or there is a vicious winter wind, then you will also know. We make it our business to alert you to new road and rail projects, possible developments or changes to planning regulations and anything else that could affect a property purchase - the negatives as well as the positives.
  • The Property Finders can locate and help you buy any type of property you want in Catalonia; something on the coast, a city apartment, a farmhouse or a village house in the country. Will it be a second home, relocation, just for investment, a business, or commercial property?
Catalonia is Spain’s most north-easterly autonomous region. Separated from France by the Pyrenees, it covers 32,000km2 with 580km of Mediterranean coastline. Catalonia compiles the best of European terrain in just one region. However the size of the region and the variety of terrain can make finding property in Catalonia quite a challenge. The diversity is huge: long sandy beaches alternate with intimate coves tucked into a stunning mountainous shoreline; majestic mountains rise to 3000m; ski resorts abound. Unique natural environments like the Ebro Delta, the Aigues Tortes and the extinct volcanoes of the Garrotxa provide endless fascination for nature lovers. This marvellous backdrop combines with an unsurpassed lifestyle, artistic and creative excellence, renowned culinary expertise and a climate to suit all tastes. Infrastructure and communications are excellent throughout Catalonia. There are many fine historical cities like Barcelona, Lleida, Girona, Tortosa and Tarragona and countless medieval villages with ancient Spanish churches and Roman and Moorish remains.

The province of Girona has the highest per capita income in Spain and the affluence is obvious to the eye. Girona unites in just one province all the diversity of terrain which Catalonia possesses as a whole. From ski resorts to beach resorts, medieval villages to the beautiful city of Girona itself, the province is one of few places on earth where both ski and sea are possible in the same day. When completed, the high-speed TGV line will link Girona with Barcelona in only 20 minutes and Paris in just 4 1/2 hours. Increased development of Girona's international airport with more scheduled flights makes the entire province highly accessible from all over Europe and this has brought the advent of the euro-commuter to the province. Because of the ease of communications, families can relocate to Girona, easily maintain their business activity in their home country and at the same time access the higher quality of life and cultural benefit that having a foot in two countries represents to the family.

Lleida - Lérida in Spanish and English - is the least known province in Catalonia. It is also the biggest and the least populated. Lleida’s tourism is focused in the high mountain ski and excursion areas of the Pyrenees. It is an extraordinarily beautiful part of Spain with over 500 lakes, rivers and 13 ski resorts. The province offers literally every outdoor sport imaginable. Spain’s leading ski resort, Baqueira-Beret, is located in the Vall d’Aran at Lleida’s border with France and Andorra. The beautiful National Park of AiguesTortes (‘rough/whirling waters’) with its amazing variety of wildlife, fauna and trekking routes sits between the two ski stations (UNICEF recognised World Heritage site Boí Taüll to the west and Port Espot to the east). The long band of the more southerly pre-Pyrenees, with its more temperate climate, was the frontier of the Christian re-conquest of the Arab lands and is dotted with Christian & Moorish castles. An important new regional airport will be ready for operation in 2009. Together with the frequent AVE high speed train service and vastly improved highways this once remote province is now easily accessible from all over Spain and abroad.

The province of Tarragona, especially to the south of Tarragona city, offers great opportunities – both coastal and inland. The villages of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, L’Ampolla, L’Ametlla de Mar and Alcanar are still largely undiscovered by foreigners. Time seems to have virtually stood still inland and all along the Ebro river. Stradling the Ebro river, the noble city of Tortosa, capital of the Terres de l’Ebre, with its Roman, Visigoth and Moorish roots, is a treat not only for the eye but for those wishing to understand Catalonia’s rich heritage. The capital city of Tarragona is like visiting Rome in miniature. The historical center exhibits marvellous vestiges of the time when Tarraco - as the city was known in Roman times - was the Roman military base for the Iberian peninsula.

Property styles vary enormously from the ultra modern to the ancient. One can still find old stone farmhouses with extensive land as well as village properties to renovate. Outside the towns and villages, both inland and coastal areas offer a wide variety of residential communities with communal gardens, pools and tennis courts. There are so many options it can be difficult to know where to start the search for your property in Catalonia. The Property Finders are property search specialists, experienced in quickly and efficiently finding property in different parts of Spain – whatever property you want, we can find it in Andalucia, Catalonia (including Barcelona), Mallorca and the País Valenciano.
